    El largo periodo bajo monopolio de la ciudad de Murcia en la Encañizada inició su truncamiento con la llegada de los Borbones y un afán centralizador y, a la vez, modernizador, ligado al desarrollo de la Marina y su tripulación. Cuando se crea el Departamento Marítimo de Cartagena, Murcia vio mermada su influencia y control sobre el Mar Menor hasta la Real Orden de febrero de 1817, donde la pesca pasó a manos de aquella institución. Los pescadores matriculados de San Javier y San Pedro del Pinatar actuarán como los propietarios de las encañizadas. Los enfrentamientos entre ellos por el dominio de la explotación pesquera llevaron a que dicho Departamento se decidiera por constituir el Gremio de Pescadores de San Javier

    The long period under the city of Murcia monopoly at the Encañizada started its shortening with the arrival of the Bourbons and a centralizing and, at the same time, modernizer desire linked to the Navy development and its crew. When the maritime department of Cartagena was created, Murcia saw its influence and control over the Mar Menor lowered until the Royal Order of February 1817, where fishing passed the hands of that institution. The registered fishermen in San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar will become the owners of the encañizadas.

    Their confrontations for the control of the fishing exploitation led that Department to decide to establish the San Javier Fishermen’s Guild.
