Los fisioterapeutas hoy en día forman parte de los equipos de las unidades de cuidados intensivos (UCI). Su papel juega un rol importante en la permanencia de la UCI, así como la calidad de vida posthospitalaria del paciente.
En general, los grandes objetivos del fisioterapeuta dentro del equipo de UCI son disminuir los efectos relacionados con la debilidad adquirida en la UCI y sus consecuencias.
La Fisioterapia en la UCI se ha aplicado durante muchos años, inicialmente orientada hacia la asistencia del paciente portador de eventos respiratorios, y posteriormente hacia la intervención en todos los ámbitos. Gracias a los beneficios que se consiguen a través de la fisioterapia, la profesión ha demostrado la importancia de su presencia en el equipo multidisciplinario que maneja pacientes críticos.
El objetivo de este trabajo es recopilar información acerca de las actuaciones que se llevan a cabo por parte de los fisioterapeutas en estas unidades de cuidados intensivos.

Physiotherapists today are part of the intensive care unit (ICU) teams. Its role plays an important role in the permanence of the ICU, as well as the post-hospital quality of life of the patient.
In general, the main objectives of the physiotherapist within the ICU team are to reduce the effects related to weakness acquired in the ICU and its consequences.
Physiotherapy in the ICU has been applied for many years, initially oriented towards the care of the patient with respiratory events, and later towards intervention in all areas. Thanks to the benefits achieved through physiotherapy, the profession has demonstrated the importance of its presence in the multidisciplinary team that manages critical patients.
The objective of this paper is to collect information about the actions carried out by physiotherapists in these intensive care units.
