Resumen de Caso clínico. Plan de cuidados a un paciente con síndrome del túnel carpiano.

  El síndrome del túnel del carpo (STC) es la patología neuropática más frecuente en las extremidades superiores. Se define como un atrapamiento del nervio mediano bajo la aponeurosis flexora en el túnel del carpo, provocando hormigueo/disestesias sensitivas, dolor y déficit motor. De etiología idiopática, hay mayor predisposición en mujeres (5:1) en edad laboral y asociada a actividades manipulativas de ejercicios repetitivos, constantes o vibratorios. Bilateral en más del 50% de los casos.

  El diagnóstico se realiza a partir de los signos y síntomas descritos por el paciente, junto a una exploración física (Durkan, Phalen, Tinnel). La confirmación se realiza mediante un Electromiograma que nos indica el grado de severidad.

  El tratamiento variará según la intensidad y gravedad del síndrome: utilizando férulas nocturnas, infiltración local y Aines en los casos leves, o recurriendo a la cirugía en los casos más severos.

  Es una patología reseñable por su gran incapacidad funcional y las consecuencias laborales que conlleva.

  Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most frequent neuropathic pathology in the upper extremities. It is defined as an entrapment of the median nerve under the flexor aponeurosis in the carpal tunnel, causing tingling/sensory dysesthesia, pain, and motor deficit. Of idiopathic etiology, there is a greater predisposition in women (5:1) of working age and associated with manipulative activities of repetitive, constant or vibratory exercises. Bilateral in more than 50% of cases.

  The diagnosis is made based on the signs and symptoms described by the patient, together with a physical examination (Durkan, Phalen, Tinnel). Confirmation is made by an Electromyogram that indicates the degree of severity.

  The treatment will vary according to the intensity and severity of the syndrome, using night splints, local infiltration and NSAIDs in mild cases, or resorting to surgery in more severe cases.

  It is a notable pathology due to its great functional disability and the labor consequences that it entails.
