    Los olmecas fueron una cultura prístina que creció al sur de México a partir del año 1600 a.C. El inconfundible estilo de sus creaciones, que se han hallado en gran parte del territorio de Mesoamérica, los ha identificado. Este estudio parte de los materiales pétreos que usaron los olmecas para esculpir obras artísticas, donde vemos la evolución de un estilo estético singular que parte de una selección estratégica de rocas. Los datos e hipótesis de especialistas complementan los estudios aquí aportados para especificar los recursos naturales, el esfuerzo para obtenerlos y las rutas y técnicas de transporte de materias primas y productos terminados. Con nuestro escrito buscamos reforzar y revitalizar la hipótesis de que los olmecas, a la par de la búsqueda de la belleza, tuvieron un claro interés en difundir un discurso ideológico

    The Olmecs were a pristine culture that grew in Southern Mexico starting nearby 1600 B.C. The unmistakable style of their creations, that have been found in many territories of Mesoamerica, identify them. In this article, we study materials, especia-lly stone, used by the Olmecs to sculpt their artistic works. This study starts with the type of rocks, which the Olmec used to sculpt artistic works, where we see the evo-lution of a unique aesthetic style that started with a strategic selection of rocks. The data and hypotheses of specialists complement the studies provided here to specify the natural resources, the effort to obtain them and the routes and techniques for transporting raw materials and finished products. With our paper, we seek to reinforce and revitalize the hypothesis that the Olmecs, along with the search for beauty, had a clear interest in sprea-ding an ideological discourse
