    Durante muchos siglos, la Iglesia católica se ha preocupado por promover la unidad, no solo dentro, sino fuera de ella. El Papa y los obispos juegan un rol muy importante en esta promoción, y de hecho una de sus funciones es la de ser garantes de la unidad tanto dentro de las Iglesias locales como en la Iglesia universal. Desgraciadamente, esto ha ido en detrimento del incentivo a la diver-sidad. Si esta diversidad no es plenamente respetada y debidamente fomentada, es imposible alcanzar una verdadera unidad. El reconocimiento de la diversi-dad es fundamental dentro de la evangelización eclesial —asumiendo que la diversidad no rompe con la unidad esencial de la Iglesia—, pues el mundo es cada vez más diverso, y las pluralidades en todas las dimensiones están recla-mando su derecho a la existencia.

    During centuries, the Catholic Church has been concerned with promoting unity, not only inside her widespread communities, but in the whole world. The Pope and the bishops have played an essential role to encourage this necessary unity, and in fact one of their main functions consists in being a guarantee of this unity, not only within the local churches, but also in the entire Catho-lic Church. Unfortunately, that has gone in detriment of stimulating diversity. When this diversity is not fully respected and duly valued—assuming that this diversity doesn’t break the essential unity of the Church—, it is impossible to reach a true unity. The promotion of plurality is essential in the path of the church evangelization, inasmuch as our world is even more diverse, and plural-ities in all dimensions claim their right to their existence.
