Anónimos virreinales: los abogados del Río de la Plata y la destitución de un virrey.

    Como consecuencia de la conducta del virrey Sobremonte para afrontar los eventos relacionados con la invasión de las armas británicas al Río de la Plata, en agosto de 1806 se reunió en Buenos Aires un cabildo abierto que votó su deposición del mando político y militar. En estos hechos tuvieron una relevante actua-ción algunos abogados de la matrícula de la capital. En paralelo con los informes oficiales que el cabildo de Buenos Aires enviara a la corte de Madrid con el fin de justificar estos graves sucesos, corrieron por el virrei-nato algunos escritos anónimos procurando no solo explicar, sino principalmente justificar con argumentos legales la conducta del cabildo y de los vecinos que concurrieron a esa junta general. En el presente artículo se exponen estos hechos, se consideran los dos alegatos anónimos que hoy se conocen y, principalmente, se discute, de acuerdo a la información que surge de los documentos de época, quiénes pudieron ser los posibles autores de estos textos.

    As a consequence of Viceroy Sobremonte’s conduct in dealing with the events related to the invasion of the Río de la Plata by British arms, in August 1806 an open Cabildo met in Buenos Aires and voted for his removal from political and military command. Some lawyers from the capital had a relevant role in these events.Parallel to the official reports that the Buenos Aires authorities sent to the Madrid court in order to justify these serious events, some anonymous writings ran through the viceroyalty trying not only to explain, but mainly to justify with legal arguments the conduct of the Cabildo and the neighbours who attended that general meeting.In this article these facts are exposed, the two anonymous allegations that are known today are considered and, mainly, it is discussed according to the information that emerges from the documents of the time, who could have been the possible authors of these texts.
