Como muchos otros pueblos, las misiones de Rioverde, San Luis Potosí, utilizaron las cofradías para consa-grar a estas hermandades devocionales sus bienes comunales y de esta manera colocarlos fuera de la fiscali-zación del gobierno virreinal, a lo cual ayudaba el hecho de que la mayoría habían sido creadas de manera informal.Uno de los principios que justificaban el afán regulador de la corona hacia las cofradías desde finales del siglo XVIII era procurar que sus bienes sirvieran al “bien común”, lo cual explicaba la intervención de estos bienes por parte del gobierno español. La idea sería retomada durante el periodo gaditano y en la era repu-blicana en San Luis Potosí, para incautar los bienes de las cofradías y otorgarlos a los ayuntamientos como parte de los fondos municipales. El estudio analiza la forma en que fueron afectados estos bienes en el tránsito del periodo gaditano al México independiente, cuando el afán regulador sobre las cofradías se encauzó a la intervención de sus recursos en beneficio del erario de los ayuntamientos.

Like many other towns, the missions of Rioverde, San Luis Potosí, used the cofradías to consecrate their communal property to these devotional brotherhoods and thus place them outside the control of the vice-regal government, which was helped by the fact that the majority had been created informally.One of the principles that justified the regulatory effort of the crown towards the brotherhoods since the end of the 18th century was to ensure that their assets served the “common good”, which justified the inter-vention of these assets by the Spanish government. The idea would be taken up during the Cadiz period and in the Republican era in San Luis Potosí, to seize the assets of the brotherhoods and grant them to the municipalities as part of the municipal funds.The study analyzes the way in which these goods were affected in the transition from the Cadiz period to independent Mexico, when the regulatory effort over the brotherhoods was channeled to the intervention of their resources to transfer them to the municipalities.
