    Las siguientes páginas estarán dedicadas a pensar la forma en que las transformaciones de las tecnologías visuales estuvieron íntimamente relacionadas con las transformaciones de las tecnologías del poder en América Latina a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. La articulación de las imágenes con el poder gubernamental será entendida, por un lado, como la voluntad de dominio sobre el ámbito de lo visible a través de un estricto régimen representacional y, por otro, como la institución de un orden jerárquico de la comunidad a través de la producción de evidencia visuales vinculadas a una serie de regímenes de verdad.

    The following pages will be devoted to thinking about the way in which the transformations of visual technologies were closely related to the transformations of power technologies in Latin America from the second half of the nineteenth century. The articulation of images with governmental power will be understood, on the one hand, as the will of domination over the realm of the visible through a strict representational regime and, on the other, as the institution of a hierarchical order of the community through the production of visual evidence linked to a series of truth-regimes.
