  • Since the 1980s, historiography has been focused on showing up the relevant role played by women in the Middle Ages. However, the studies devoted to the common women have been much less numerous, and above many others, two have been the most debated topics about late medieval women. Firstly, historians have analyzed the possible decline in the capacity for independent economic action; secondly, it has been argued that the agency of women in northern and southern Europe was different. Recently, two studies have been published, enriching our knowledge on both topics from Basque and Brabantian women, critically revised in this book review.
