The article is an attempt to analyse the origins and causes of the Communist Yugoslavia State’s crisis and disintegration by considering internal and international factors. A central protagonist of the events was Slobodan Milošević, a cunning and ruthless political leader: he was one of the first nationalist and post-communist leaders to build a political regime as an effective synthesis of pluralism, capitalism and authoritarianism, a political model for many Eastern European politicians.
