    El objetivo de la investigación es analizar la importancia que tiene el desarrollo y el empleo para la equidad de género y la autonomía de las mujeres, con énfasis en América Latina. En el artículo se afirma que la reflexión sobre género hace evidente la necesidad de abordar a la Política desde un enfoque más amplio, donde las fronteras de lo privado y lo público sean más fluidas y permeables; y que el desarrollo y el empleo son elementos fundamentales para la autonomía y el empoderamiento de las mujeres en el espacio público y en el espacio privado, y si bien son factores propiamente del espacio material, dota de recursos que promueven y dan soporte para el reconocimiento simbólico.

    The aim of the research is to analyze the importance of development and employment for gender equality and the autonomy of women, with an emphasis on Latin America. The investigation is part of the tradition of critical politics since it is not exclusively satisfied with the injustices identification but also reflects on the actions to be accomplished to repair discrimination. The research hypothesis is that the androcentric gender discourse has intertwined material and identity inequities and that development and employment are good starting points for a unifying orientation that seeks gender equity, autonomy, and women's empowerment. The article argues that gender inequality and the instrumentalization of women originate from the imposition of homogeneous identities and roles on women and that reflection on gender makes evident the need to approach Politics from a broader focus, where the borders of the private and the public are more fluid and permeable.
