En su segundo libro, La tregua (1963), Primo Levi relata las peripecias de su regreso desde Auschwitz a Turín: un largo peregrinaje que duró ocho meses obligándole a cruzar Europa, y sobre todo Rusia, en todas direcciones. El artículo aborda los significados histórico, político, etimológico y psicológico de la palabra «tregua», las simetrías y contrastes dentro de la obra (además de algunas simetrías con la primera obra de Levi, Se questo è un uomo), su naturaleza de narración oral y algunas afinidades e intertextualidades con Heinrich Heine y François Rabelais.

In his second book, The Truce (1963), Primo Levi relates the adventure of his journey back from Auschwitz to Turin, a lengthy wandering that, during eight months, made him cross the whole of Europe, and Russia particularly, in all directions. The article is focused on the historical, political, etymological and psychological meanings of the title-word, and on the symmetries and contrasts inherent to the work (and also on some symmetries with Levi’s debut work If This Is a Man), on its quality as an oral narration, and on a number of affinities and intertextualities with Heinrich Heine and François Rabelais.
