The first step in any environmental management system is to evaluate the environmental impact. The tool used to analyse this is the Life Cycle Assesment (LCA). LCA includes a study of the entire life cycle of a product, process or activity, from extraction, and processing of raw materials to production, transportation, distribution, use, reuse, maintenance, recycling, elimination and final storage. The aim of this article is to show the different tools frequently used for LCA with their advantages and disadvantages.
