Resumen de Análisis contrastivo de los encuadres culturales de noticias sobre Covid-19 en The Guardian y El País basado en el uso de sustantivos

  El presente trabajo ofrece un análisis contrastivo de las noticias sobre el Covid-19 publicadas en los periódicos El País y The Guardian durante los primeros meses de la pandemia. Nuestro estudio se incluye dentro de la línea de investigación de la teoría del encuadre, que analiza los diversos factores y procesos mentales que afectan a la creación e interpretación de las noticias. Los objetivos principales de nuestro trabajo son detectar y analizar los encuadres culturales dominantes en los medios informativos seleccionados; contrastar los resultados obtenidos en este análisis para descubrir las semejanzas y diferencias entre los periódicos de ambas culturas; analizar las implicaciones culturales del encuadre aplicado por cada medio y el contraste cultural existente entre ellos. Para lograr estos objetivos se ha desarrollado una metodología de análisis de corpus propia, centrada en la detección de los campos semánticos dominantes combinando el uso de la herramienta informática Sketch Engine con los criterios de los investigadores, seguida de un análisis contrastivo cuantitativo y cualitativo. Los resultados de nuestro análisis ponen de manifiesto una diferencia en la dominancia de los encuadres culturales de El País y The Guardian, tanto por los temas a los que se ha vinculado la información del Covid-19 como por el modo de ofrecer dicha información

  The present research offers a contrastive analysis of the news about Covid-19 published in the newspapers El País and The Guardian during the first months of the pandemic This research has been conducted within the theory of framing, which analyzes the various factors and mental processes that affect the creation and interpretation of news. The objectives of our work are to detect and analyze the dominant cultural settings in the selected newspapers; to contrast the results obtained in this analysis in order to establish the similarities and differences between the newspapers of both cultures; and to analyze the cultural implications of the framing applied by each newspaper and the cultural contrast between them. To achieve these objectives, a proprietary corpus analysis methodology has been developed, focused on detecting the dominant semantic fields by combining the use of the Sketch Engine computer tool with the researchers’ criteria, followed by a quantitative and qualitative contrastive analysis. The results of our study reveal a difference in the dominance of the cultural frames of El País and The Guardian, both in terms of the topics to which the Covid-19 information has been linked and in the way the newspapers display said information. This research is a contribution to the framing theory, both for the proposed methodology and for the cultural contrastive approach that we have provided
