La tradición de los gigantes y cabezudos está extendida por todo el mundo, con especial arraigo en nuestro país. En Calahorra, se tiene constancia de su presencia al menos desde 1522. Desde 1901, el Ayuntamiento de Calahorra ha tenido en propiedad un total de 26 gigantes, 22 cabezudos y 2 caballitos, de los que actualmente se conservan 18, 10 y 2 respectivamente. En este artículo estudiaremos la comparsa que recorrió las calles entre 1901 y la Guerra Civil. Para llevarlo a cabo, se ha trabajado principalmente con hemerotecas, documentos de archivo, testimonios y otras publicaciones. El objeto de este artículo es recopilar la historia de estas figuras y resaltar su carácter histórico y cultural como parte del folclore.
The tradition of the giants and big-heads is spread throughout the world, and it is deeply-rooted in our country. In Calahorra, there is evidence of its presence at least since 1522. Since 1901, the Calahorra City Council has owned a total of 26 giants, 22 big-heads and 2 hobbyhorses, of which 18, 10 and 2 respectively are still preserved. In this article we will study the troupe that walked the streets between 1901 and the Spanish Civil War. To carry it out, mainly newspaper libraries, archive documents, testimonies and other publications have been studied. The purpose of this article is to compile the history of these figures and highlight their historical and cultural character as part of folklore.
