    El novembre del 1931 el diari La Publicitat va destapar un suposat cas de corrupció que havia implicat polítics republicans i socialistes de la Generalitat de Catalunya i dels ajuntaments de Barcelona i Tolosa, així com l’estafador francès Lazare Bloch. D’aquesta manera, esclatava el que es coneixeria com l’afer Bloch, un escàndol politicofinancer que va omplir algunes capçaleres catalanes, espanyoles i franceses durant uns quants dies. A través de diverses fonts hemerogràfiques, policials, diplomàtiques i parlamentàries, el present article, en primer lloc, analitzarà els discursos sobre corrupció política i moralitat pública desencadenats per l’afer Bloch, especialment en la cultura política republicana. En segon lloc, també examinarà com l’afer fou percebut, transferit i adaptat a Espanya i França. Aquest exercici permetrà demostrar que la legitimació de la naixent Segona República Espanyola es va basar en l’aplicació d’un projecte específic de moralització de la política. Igualment, es podrà observar com l’escàndol va adaptar-se a les lluites polítiques d’ambdues bandes dels Pirineus, amb elements transnacionals compartits.

    In November 1931, the newspaper La Publicitat uncovered an alleged corruption case that would have implicated republican and socialist politicians from the Generalitat de Catalunya and the city councils of Bar-celona and Toulouse, as well as the French swindler Lazare Bloch. Thereby, the so-called Bloch affair blew up, a politico-financial scandal that filled some Catalan, Spanish, and French press for a few days. Through various newspaper, police, diplomatic and parliamentary sources, this article, firstly, will analyse the discourses on political corruption and public morality set off by the Bloch affair, especially within the republican political culture. Sec-ondly, the article will also examine how the affair was perceived, transferred, and adapted in Spain and France. This exercise will allow us to demonstrate that the legitimation of the nascent Second Spanish Republic was based on the application of a specific moralizing project of politics. Likewise, it will be possible to observe how the scandal was adapted to the political struggles of both sides of the Pyrenees, with shared transnational elements.Keywords: political corruption, scandal, public opinion, republican po-litical culture, Second Spanish Republic, Third French Republic was based on the application of a specific moralizing project of politics.
