Resumen de Contes o bajanades?: El llibre per a infants al primer terç del segle XX

El primer terç del segle XX va tenir un significat especial per a la producció de la literatura infantil. Amb el terme poc políticament correcte de bajanades, inspirat en com titllava la literatura infantil l’escriptor Carles Riba, es pretén tractar en aquest article què va significar el llibre destinat als infants durant el primer terç del segle XX i, específicament, indagar com s’entenia la literatura infantil en aquell moment. Amb aquest propòsit s’ha seleccionat un total de trenta-quatre obres destinades al públic infantil, editades a Catalunya entre els anys 1907 i 1940, atenent el seu reconeixement i la seva difusió. Els resultats mostren una important consideració de la literatura destinada als infants perquè era objecte d’interès d’autors i il·ustradors de prestigi, fet que se suma a la priorització de la publicació d’obres de qualitat per part de l’àmbit editorial, un reconegut suport institucional i una ferma valoració pedagògica de la importància de la literatura en l’educació. Tot plegat, amb una clara i potent influència cultural europea.

The first third of the 20th century was especially meaningful for the production of children’s literature. Using the perhaps politically incorrect term Foolishness, inspired by how the writer Carles Riba criticized children’s literature, in this paper we propose what books for children during the first third of the 20th century meant in Catalonia, and, specifically, we investigate how children’s literature was understood then. With this purpose, we have chosen 34 books for children, published between 1907 and 1940, taking into account their consideration and diffusion. The results revealed an important relevance of this children’s literature, which attracted the talents of reputable writers and illustrators and, added to the priority of publishing houses for producing quality books, brought institutional recognition and the strong educational validation of the importance of children’s literature; all of this with an evident and powerful cultural European influence.
