    El propósito del artículo es reflexionar en torno a las consideraciones pertinentes cuando se enseña lengua materna, idioma castellano según la Constitución de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela (1999) en su Título I, Artículo 9, o Español de Venezuela según Villalba de Ledezma y Obregón, 1990. Se estudian aspectos del legado de la tradición pedagógica, sentido práctico y prospectivo de la enseñanza de la lengua para el desarrollo sistemático de la competencia comunicativa de los aprendices en los distintos niveles del sistema educativo venezolano, la función comunicativa del lenguaje, el desarrollo individual y sociocognitivo y la relación lengua-pensamiento. Se reporta una investigación de campo, enmarcada en el paradigma interpretativo y con enfoque cualitativo. Es una aproximación documental a la fundamentación teórico-práctica para optimizar la formación permanente del docente, honrar la función del profesorado formado en el área, revertir los resultados de fracaso escolar por inadecuaciones idiomáticas y repensar la calidad de la clase de lengua.

    The purpose of this article is to reflect on the pertinent considerations when teaching the mother tongue, Spanish language according to the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (1999) in its Title I, Article 9, or Venezuelan Spanish according to Villalba de Ledezma and Obregón, 1990. Aspects of the legacy of the pedagogical tradition, practical and prospective sense of language teaching for the systematic development of learners' communicative competence at the different levels of the Venezuelan educational system, the communicative function of language, individual and socio-cognitive development, and the language-thinking relationship are studied. A field research is reported, framed in the interpretative paradigm and with a qualitative approach. This work is a documentary approach to the theoretical-practical foundation to optimize the teacher’s continuing education, to honor the role of teachers trained in the area, to revert the results of school failure due to language inadequacies and to rethink the quality of the language class.
