Este estudio analiza la historicidad del episodio de la pelea de D. Carnal y Dª Cuaresma en el Libro de Buen Amor. En realidad, se trata de la lucha de las tropas del rey Pedro I (D. Carnal) comandadas por el infante D.
Juan (D. Jueves Lardero) contra las de la señora de Vizcaya, Dª Juana Núñez de Lara (Dª Cuaresma). Tras una primera victoria de esta última en Gordejuela y en Ochandiano en 1355, finalmente el rey D. Pedro conseguirá poner bajo su poder las tierras vizcaínas gracias a sus maniobras políticas sin necesidad de movilizar sus tropas. En el texto aparecen muchos otros hechos reales ocurridos en 1355, las acciones militares y viajes del rey D. Pedro en Sevilla, Medina del Campo, Extremadura, Burgos y Toledo y de su protegido Juan Ruiz de Cisneros, así como referencias a individuos de aquel tiempo: Alfonso Vargas de Toledo (el «privado del papa») o el infante D. Tello, entre otros muchos.
This study analyses the historicity of the episode of the fight between D. Carnal and Dª Cuaresma in the Libro de Buen Amor. In reality, it is about the fight of the troops of King Pedro I (D. Carnal) commanded by the Infante D. Juan (D. Jueves Lardero), against those of the lady of Vizcaya, Dª Juana Núñez de Lara (Dª Cuaresma). After an initial victory for the latter at Gordejuela and Ochandiano in 1355, King Pedro finally managed to bring the lands of Biscay under his power thanks to his political manoeuvres without the need to mobilise his troops. The text includes many other real events that took place in 1355, the military actions and journeys of King Pedro in Sevilla, Medina del Campo, Extremadura and Burgos and of his protégé Juan Ruiz de Cisneros, as well as references to individuals of that time: Alfonso Vargas de Toledo (the «pope’s private») and the prince Tello, among others
