This study, mainly, defends Juan Bernal Díaz de Luco as a possible author of Lazarillo de Tormes by comparing his biography and work with the compendium of several studies on aspects of Lazarillo such as its characterization, context, diffusion and edition; the english clue of the Lazarillo is investigated, and in a separate chapter the literal transcription of Elvira Gutiérrez’s farewell to her son Diego de Almagro, within the statement or testimony of Elvira Rodríguez from 1540, is compared with the farewell between Antona Pérez and Lázaro. Secondarily, are advanced the hypothesis of a pastoral or diocesan visit as an excuse and argument for the novel, the double nature of «the case»: the case of the Archpriest and the case of Lázaro and the identification of Vuestra Merced as visitador or ecclesiastical notary
