    Las pruebas bioquímicas de laboratorio complementan la historia clínica. Constituyen una gran ayuda en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de diversas enfermedades, por lo que el clínico debe estar capacitado para indicar las pruebas necesarias y saber interpretarlas. Contribuyen a identificar la enfermedad y son un indicador de los progresos del paciente y de la efectividad del tratamiento. Si bien los valores de las pruebas no se han modificado de forma ostensible en los últimos años, las técnicas y los aparatos han evolucionado enormemente. Esta revisión tiene como objetivo el análisis y la interpretación de las pruebas bioquímicas hemáticas: sus indicaciones, valores normales y anormales, así como su relación con enfermedades sistémicas que tienen repercusión en la cavidad bucal.

    Blood chemistry laboratory tests complement the history of the patient and are of great help for the diagnosis and treatment of several diseases. Therefore, the clinician has to be able to prescribe specific tests and to interpret them. These tests contribute to identify the disease and are an indicator of the progress of the patient and the effectiveness of treatments.

    Even though the values of the tests remain relatively constant throughout the years, the techniques and devices have evolved distinctively. The objective of this review is to analyze and interpret blood chemistry tests: their indications, normal and abnormal values, as well as the relationship with systemic diseases that have oral repercussion.
