For over half century mammalogists have studied and recorded species all over the state of Morelos, and despite the size and conspicuity of the collared peccari (Pecari tajacu) this species has not been officially recorded in Morelos. There are many informal reports from people in the communities whom claim to have seen it many years ago, yet young people seem not to know of it, this has made local mammalogists think hunting and habitat lost pressures have extirpated this species from Morelos. This is the first documented record of P. tajacu in this region of the south-central Mexico.
Key words: Sierra de Huautla, collared peccari, Pecari tajacu, Morelos.
