Resumen de Youtube English Music Videos as Educational Resource to Teach Vocabulary and Improve the Listening and Speaking Skills

Este estudio tiene como objetivo determinar la efectividad del uso de videos musicales de YouTube en inglés como un recurso educativo para enseñar vocabulario y mejorar las habilidades de escucha en el aula de EFL. Los participantes de este estudio fueron 403 adolescentes, 20 profesores de inglés de secundaria y 2 profesores universitarios de la región sur del Ecuador. Esta investigación siguió un método cualitativo y descriptivo y enfoques cuantitativos. Los resultados corroboran que el uso de los videos musicales de YouTube en inglés ayuda a los alumnos a desarrollar sus habilidades para escuchar y hablar; este recurso también aumenta el vocabulario de los alumnos, y la motivación tanto en profesores como en estudiantes.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of YouTube English music videos as an educational resource to teach vocabulary and improve the listening and speaking skills in the EFL Classroom. The participants of this study were 403 teenagers, 20 high school English teachers, and 2 university teachers from the South region of Ecuador. This research followed an experimental and a mix method qualitative-descriptive and quantitative approaches. The results corroborate that the use of YouTube English music videos helps learners develop their listening and speaking skills; it also increases students’ vocabulary and motivation in both teachers and students.
