Resumen de Comunidad familiar y agencia femenina en el Perú virreinal: un acercamiento desde el epistolario de las Carrillo de Albornoz

En este artículo se plantea un estudio acerca de la forma en que expresaron y ejercieron la agencia las mujeres de la familia Carrillo de Albornoz, una de las más relevantes en la sociedad limeña del siglo xviii. Se trata de un análisis basado en las casi trescientas cartas escritas entre 1744 y 1800 por siete de estas mujeres a sus parientes en la Península. En él se desgranará cómo su escri- tura revela la capacidad de obrar de la que disponían y el papel que cumplieron tanto dentro de sus familias como en el espacio público, relacionándose con los agentes más relevantes del Virreinato e, incluso, dirigiendo sus propios negocios e inversiones económicas. Se buscará mostrar así cómo los discursos privados contienen muestras de una agencia femenina que tuvo lugar por más que en la documentación oficial que ha nutrido tradicionalmente la historiografía no haya quedado suficiente constancia de ello.

This paper will examine how the women of the Carrillo de Albornoz family —namely one of the most relevant of the Peruvian aristocracy of the 18th Century— performed and expressed their agency. The analysis is based on a collection of almost three hundred letters written between 1744 and 1800 by seven of these women and sent to their relatives in the Iberian Peninsula. Based on the information provided by the letters, we will break down how their writing reveals their skills for managing and acting and the role they played both within their families and in the public arena, by establishing relations with other relevant agents from de Viceroyalty and even running their own businesses and controlling their economic investments. Thus, this study will show how private discourses preserve female agency samples that are not registered in the official documentation on which historiography was traditionally based.
