Resumen de Defensa pública de una institución educativa: Debates entre políticos-periodistas sobre la Universidad Industrial de Santander (1948-1959)

La fundación de la Universidad Industrial de Santander (uis) en 1948 fue el resultado de la lucha entre dirigentes políticos y propietarios de periódicos regionales de Santander. Este artículo describe cuál fue el proceso de justificación de la estructura académica y la infraestructura física de la uis acorde a la narrativa defensiva y reivindicatoria de la prensa liberal. A partir del análisis descriptivo del discurso de diagnósticos gubernamentales y las exigencias periodísticas, se demuestra la importancia que tuvo la presión social desde las imprentas liberales para la creación de la primera universidad del nororiente andino, así como la resistencia de las élites conservadoras.

The founding of the Industrial University of Santander (uis) in 1948 was the result of the struggle between political leaders and owners of regional newspapers in Santander. This article describes the process of justification of the academic structure and physical infrastructure of the uis according to the defensive and vindictive narrative of the liberal press. From the descriptive analysis of the discourse of government diagnoses and the journalistic demands, is demonstrated the importance of social pressure from the liberal printing presses for the creation of the first university in the Andean Northeast, as well as the resistance of the conservative elites.
