    Se analiza la Teoría de la novela de Georg Lukács. Su propuesta principal de que la novela y la épica comparten el mismo propósito, su compromiso con la realidad, define una trayectoria que inicia con Homero hasta Cervantes, pasando por Dante. Se refuta esta teoría por generalizar el concepto de novela, ignorando sus distintos tipos y, por dejar de lado importantes obras griegas y romanas representativas del género. Entre estas se destaca El Satiricón de Petronio como posible obra de transición que mejor se insertaría en la trayectoria descrita por Lukács, en vez de la Divina Comedia de Dante.

    The Theory of the Novel by Georg Lukács is analyzed in this research. His main proposal that the novel and the epic share the same purpose, their engagement with reality, defines a trajectory that ranges from Homer to Cervantes, throughout Dante. This theory is refuted since it generalizes the concept of novel, ignoring its different types and putting aside important Greek and Roman works that represents this genre. Among these works, Satyricon by Petronius is possibly the best work of transition that could be inserted in the trajectory described by Lukács, instead of Dante’s Divine Comedy.
