  • Environmental concerns are increasing throughout Europe whereby particular concern focusses on the use of natural resources and energy, and the increase of domestic and industrial waste. This paper will outline key environmental issues and the ecological demand for any product and describe the complexity of life cycle assessments. Legislative measures on packaging in the various countries and trends as to directives affecting other product groups will be presented. The presentation will cover the ideal suitability of aluminium for recycling and outline the successful recycling activities the industry has undertaken, and the results achieved whereby special reference will be given to aluminium beverage cans.
