  • takṣata (RV 3.38.2b) cannot be a 2pl form of the thematic aorist stem. In the given context of the hymn, it must necessarily be a 3pl form. Diachronically, this 3pl present middle form belongs to active forms of the thematic aorist stem. Both forms continue a PIE protomiddle pattern with 3sg *tétk̑o(i). This paper further offers a brief outline of the prehistory and development of the respective reduplicated thematic stems.
