The behaviour of derived verbs selecting -mi inflection (statives in -ē(s)-, causatives in -nu-, iteratives in -ske/a-) compared with that of derivatives selecting -hhe inflection, in particular factives in -ahh-, reveals distinct properties with regard to the relations between transitivity and the representation of state. From this distinction, one can infer a motivation for the distinction between -mi and -hhe paradigms.
