    La controversia en torno a la obligación de los indios a diezmar en el virreinato del Perú es el tema de este artículo. Se trata de un aspecto poco explorado en la historia colonial de los Andes y, desde el punto de vista historiográfico, uno de singular importancia porque permite vislumbrar las tensiones que existían al interior del clero, las vacilaciones de la política colonial metropolitana y los intereses locales en juego; pero también problematizar el proceso de construcción institucional de la Iglesia en el siglo XVI.

    The controversy concerning the obligation of the Indians to tithe in the Peruvian viceroyalty is the subject of this article. This is a subject little explored in the colonial history of the Andes and, from the historiographical point of view, one of singular importance because it allows us to glimpse the tensions that existed within the clergy, the vacillations of the metropolitan colonial policy and the local interests in game; but also problematize the process of institutional construction of the Church in the sixteenth century.
