    • This issue of poverty and social exclusion is one of the key challengesthat are facing the citizens in the Republic of Macedonia in the last twenty years. The process of political and economic transition started in the nineties of the last century was followed by a series of social tensions. The family is undergoing a transformation that has affect on increase of social problems such as alcoholism, drug addiction, prostitution, domestic violence, educational exclusion. In order to respond to the newly created conditions, the state takes different measures in the area of social and family policies.Legislation is constantly subject to changes, so there is the problem of unpredictability, but also insufficient planning and forecasting of possible obstacles in implementation. In the process of European integration, a lot of legislative and institutional solutions failed as a result of lack of adjustment to the local context, tradition, history, culture. This paper focuses on the above and related problems and challenges for contemporary families in the Republic of Macedonia entailed by poverty and social exclusion, as well as the measures of social and family policy for overcoming the current situation.
