Las migraciones humanas han sido frecuentes en la historia, pero cada una tiene sus propias características. Las migraciones de hoy en día para muchos inmigrantes que llegan a España y Europa se caracterizan por vivirse en condiciones extremas hasta el punto de que los niveles de estrés que viven superan la capacidad humana de adaptación. Estas personas son candidatas a padecer el síndrome del inmigrante con estrés crónico y múltiple o síndrome de Ulises (en referencia al héroe griego que padeció innumerables adversidades y peligros lejos de sus seres queridos).

Human migrations have been frequent phenomena throughout history; however, each migration usually presents its own specific characteristics. Today, the circumstances in which many immigrants come to Spain and Europe are characterised by their extreme conditions. For millions of individuals, emigration presents stress levels of such intensity that they exceed the human capacity of adaptation. These persons are, therefore, highly vulnerable to Immigrant Syndrome with Chronic and Multiple Stress, known as the Ulysses Syndrome (in reference to the Greek hero who suffered countless adversities and dangers in lands far from his loved ones.
