The objective was to assess the effect of type of egg yolk (EY), presence or not of seminal plasma (sperm washing) and donor age on sperm viability post-thawing. Semen was collected from 8 rams and 6 bucks for two consecutive years, at the age of 1 and 2 years, respectively. Ejaculates of each species was mixed and divided into two aliquots, one was diluted in a Tris-based medium and centrifuged twice at 600xg for 10 minutes, while the other aliquot was not washed. Washed and unwashed ram as washed goat sperm was diluted in a freezing media supplemented with a final concentration of 15% of EY (fresh, powdered or clarified) and 5% of glycerol, meanwhile unwashed goat sperm was diluted in the same media but with 2% of EY. The results showed that in ram sperm, factors such as donor age (p<0.001), sperm washing (p<0.001) and the interaction of both factors (p<0.01) were significant, while the type of EY factor and its interactions of age and washing were not. In goats, factors as the donor age (p<0.05) and sperm treatment (washed sperm+15% EY versus unwashed sperm+2%EY) (p<0.001) were significant, whereas there was no interaction between treatment and age.
