Resumen de Estudio de ideas sobre economía, economistas y razonamiento en economía en la Educación Secundaria

Georgina Solaz Moreno, Joan Josep Solaz Portolés

  • This study was intended as a first approximation to the ideas of secondary students about economicsand its processes. Its objectives were focused on knowing the level of misconceptions about economics, theknowledge level regarding economists’ activity, and reasoning in economics. Furthermore, the effects of genderand grade level on the above questions were analyzed. A 21-item questionnaire was administered to 126 secondaryschool students (54 males and 72 females) in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. From the questionnaire scoresobtained and the analyses of variance performed, it can be concluded that: a) students have a remarkable levelof acceptance of misconceptions about economics, and an acceptable knowledge of economists’ activity, butinsufficient knowledge of the forms of reasoning in economics; b) academic training (grade level) significantlyimproves misconceptions about economics and knowledge of economists’ activity; c) gender has no influence onany of the factors analyzed; and d) the role of models in the interpretation of economic phenomena is little known.
