Arnaldo Di Benedetto (1940-2021) was a distinguished scholar of Italian literature and co-editor of the «Giornale Storico della Letteratura» from 1993 to 2020. This article retraces his career as a scholar, the focus of his critical research, in particular his studies on Torquato Tasso, Giovanni Della Casa, Vittorio Alfieri, the Ottocento and Benedetto Croce, as well as his interest in cultural exchanges between Germany and Italy and Southern Tyrol culture.
