    Este ensayo centra su interés en la historia de la formación de la biblioteca de los duques de Medinaceli en Madrid, a partir del siglo XVIII, y su evolución en la siguiente centuria, puesto que, además, su apertura al público de la época fue un hito que facilitó la difusión del saber y el ocio cultural en el contexto de la mentalidad ilustrada. De forma paralela, la estructura orgánica de su archivo fue un modelo para cuantos se le agregaron después, como el de los duques de Santisteban del Puerto, así como un arsenal de datos histórico-artísticos. El caso concreto de Medinaceli permite un diálogo holístico entre archivos, bibliotecas y documentos artísticos en el contexto del papel que juega la nobleza entre el centralismo borbónico y el liberalismo español.

    This paper focuses on the history of the formation of the library of the Dukes of Medinaceli in Madrid from the eighteenth century and its evolution in the following century, since, in addition, its opening to the public at the time was a milestone that facilitated the dissemination of knowledge and cultural leisure in the context of the enlightened mentality. In parallel, the organic structure of his archive was a model for those who were added later, such as that of the Dukes of Santisteban del Puerto, as well as an arsenal of historical-artistic data. The specific case of Medinaceli allows for a holistic dialogue between archives, libraries and artistic documents in the context of the role played by the nobility between Bourbon centralism and Spanish liberalism.
