Resumen de Composición de las heces y rendimiento de metano en cerdos de acabado alimentados con subproductos de cereales

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the inclusion of hominy feed and rice bran in finishing pig diets (70-110 kg) on feces composition and ultimate methane yield (B0). A total of 160 finishing pig animals were used and divided in two diet treatments control (commercial diet) and by-product diet (with 12.5% of hominy feed and 8% of rice bran). Both diets were isoenergetic and isoproteic. The B0 from feces was determined in a batch assay during 120 days. Feces were also analyzed for dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fat, fiber fractions (neutro detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and acid detergent lignin), volatile fatty acids and pH. Feces from pigs fed with by-products showed a higher fiber content and a lower crude fat and crude protein content, these feces also showed a lower ultimate methane yield than those obtained from control animals.
