    El presente artículo tiene el objetivo de revisar algunos de los elementos y factores que permitieron el desarrollo material, social y económico de las misiones jesuitas establecidas en la región de los Llanos Orientales y la Orinoquia entre los siglos xvii y xviii, las cuales se encontraban bajo la jurisdicción de la provincia jesuítica del Nuevo Reino de Granada. Para lograr dicho cometido, se analizarán algunos de los beneficios geográficos que beneficiaban la fundación y la comunicación entre las congregaciones religiosas. A su vez, se ofrecerán algunos antecedentes acerca de las primeras fundaciones jesuitas establecidas en los Llanos del Casanare a fines del siglo xvii e inicios del siglo xviii, las cuales fueron el resultado de una serie de exploraciones y misiones itinerantes, cuya intención principal era el conocimiento de la región llanera y sus habitantes. Finalmente, se ahondará en el asunto de las gestiones realizadas por el jesuita valenciano José Gumilla durante la tercera y cuarta década del siglo xviii, cuyo objetivo era fortalecer y ampliar el complejo misional del Orinoco.

    This article aims to review some of the elements and factors that allowed the material, social and economic development of the Jesuit missions established in the Llanos Orientalesand Orinoquia region between the 17th and 18th centuries, which were they were under the jurisdiction of the Jesuit province of the New Kingdom of Granada. To achieve this task, some of the geographic benefits that benefited the foundation and communication among religious congregations will be analyzed. In turn, some background information will be offered about the first Jesuit foundations established in the Llanos del Casanare at the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, which were the result of a series of explorations and itinerant missions, whose main intention was to knowledge of the «llanera » region and its habitants. Finally, it will delve into the matter of the efforts made by the valencian jesuit José Gumilla during the third and fourth decades of the 18th century, whose objective was to strengthen and expand the Orinoco missionary complex.
