    En este artículo se analizan las elecciones a prior y cónsul del Consulado de Sevilla entre 1618 y 1648, periodo que coincidió con la visita de Juan de Góngora al órgano consular. Se muestran las prácticas que una camarilla de mercaderes ejecutó para tener el control de los cargos dirigentes, y cómo la visita fue clave para romper esta dinámica e introducir reformas que modificaron la normativa electoral del Consulado.

    This article focuses on the elections for prior and consul of the Seville Consulate between 1618 and 1648. The procedure of these elections was inspected by the visit of Juan de Góngora to the Consulate. In this article we analyze the practices that a small group of merchants executed to have control of the leading positions, and how the role of the visit was crucial to break this dynamic and reform the electoral norm of the Consulate.
