    Esta investigación tiene como objetivo evaluar la factibilidad de promover el turismo rural en el municipio de Santa Elena, Yucatán, así como identificar los impactos positivos y negativos que esta actividad pudiera generar. La metodología aplicada es cualitativa, utilizando técnicas de observación directa, entrevistas a profundidad e investigación acción participativa (IAP). Los resultados muestran que es posible desarrollar proyectos de turismo rural en el municipio siempre que existan líderes sociales que logren la vinculación entre autoridades municipales, operadores turísticos, ejidatarios y población en general. Una cuestión fundamental es respetar y entender la forma de vida de los habitantes, implementando capacitación continua a operadores turísticos y, aún más importante, involucrar a la comunidad en general en el conocimiento de su cultura y riqueza natural, para lograr una perseverancia activa de sus recursos.

    This research aims to evaluate the feasibility of promoting rural tourism in the municipality of SantaElena, Yucatán, as well as to identify the positive and negative impacts that this activity could generate. The methodology applied is qualitative by using direct observation techniques, in-depth interviews and participatory action research (PAR). The results show that it is feasible to develop rural tourism projects in the municipality as long as there are social leaders, tour-operators, ejidatarios (communal land holders) and the general population. A fundamental aspect is respecting and understanding the way of life of its inhabitants, with effective and continuous training for touristic operators, and to involve the community in general in the knowledge of their culture and natural wealth to achieve an active perseverance of their resources.
