En este artículo se analiza el discurso presente en las relaciones de sucesos sobre el asedio de la ciudad francesa de La Rochelle publicadas durante los años 1627 y 1628. Se estudia cómo la discusión sobre un acontecimiento externo se incorporaba a una explicación global y el discurso se adaptaba al contexto de producción. Su larga duración, el marcado carácter religioso, potenciado además por un contexto internacional favorable para tal discurso, la identificación de un enemigo común y una perspectiva temporal y geográfica amplia son elementos que favorecieron e impulsaron el interés público por el sitio de La Rochelle.

The aim of this article is to analyse the discourse in the relaciones de sucesos concerning the siege of the French city of La Rochelle, published during the years 1627 and 1628. It examines how foreign events were incorporated into a global explanation and how the discourse was adapted to the specific context of production. The long duration of the siege, its religious dimension, further enhanced by the international context, the identification of a common enemy and a broad temporal and geographical perspective are all elements that led to an increased public interest in the siege of La Rochelle.
