Resumen de Festividades para el nacimiento del Príncipe Próspero: ¿exaltación de la potencia de la monarquía española o revelación de una situación de crisis profunda ?

  En noviembre de 1657 nace Felipe Próspero, el tan deseado heredero de la monarquía española. Numerosas festividades celebran el acontecimiento. Dan cuenta de ello muchas relaciones entre las cuales la redactada por el cronista real, don Rodrigo Méndez Silva, que se propone servir a la corona exaltándola. Durante este periodo de celebraciones, don Jerónimo de Barrionuevo está en la corte y envía cartas con abundantes noticias al deán de la catedral de Sigüenza (donde sigue siendo tesorero). Por su curiosidad y su enfoque peculiar sobre los acontecimientos, transmite a su « amigo del alma » una versión de las celebraciones que dista de la del cronista. A Barrionuevo no se le « queda nada en el tintero, ni bueno ni malo » por lo que pone de realce varias dificultades, y no solo financieras. Así, con las festividades para el nacimiento del Príncipe, ¿ la monarquía justifica su potencia y riqueza o revela que atraviesa una crisis profunda ?

  Philip Prosper, the much desired inheritor of the Spanish monarchy, was born in November of 1657. A lot of festivities celebrate this event. Many « relaciones » written by the royal chronicler Sir Rodrigo Méndez Silva, who proposes to serve the Crown by exalting it, give an account of it. During this period of celebrations, Sir Jerónimo de Barrionuevo is in the court and send letters with numerous news to the dean of the cathedral of Sigüenza (where he is still treasurer). Due to his curiosity and his peculiar approach about the events, he conveys to his « soul friend » a far version of the celebrations from that of the chronicler. Barrionuevo « tells everything, both good and bad », which highlights different dificulties, and not only financial ones. With the festivities for the birth of the Prince, does the monarchy justifies its power and wealth or reveals that they are getting through a deep crisis ?
