This study analyses growth traits in Murciano Granadina (MG) purebred kids comparing with Boer (BO) x MG crossbred kids. Crossbreeding in dairy goats is unusual. Selection for milk yield could get worse several growth traits . The MG kids are marketed between 7 and 9 kg live weight. In this study, kids were fed with a commercial milk replacer (Nantamilk Supreme, Nanta España S.A.). Animals were slaughtered at 9 kg or when they were 9 weeks old. Birth weight was 33% higher in crossbred kids. Daily gain was 128 g/d in purebred kids comparing with 163 g/d in the crossbred ones. BOxMG reached the commercial weight 17 days before (35 vs. 52 d) and the feed conversion ratio shown the best efficiency in converting milk replacer in liveweight (1,36 vs. 1,53 kg/kg). Crossbreeding Murciano Granadina goats with Boer bucks could improve straightforward the growth traits of young kids, consuming less milk replacer and reaching the commercial weight more than two weeks before.
