  Se sea o no seguidor de la llamada “teoría institucional del arte”, formulada por George Dickie, y que afirma que el arte obtiene su sentido por estar situado dentro de un tejido de relaciones creadas por instituciones (museo, crítica, historia y filosofía del arte…), este libro de Sarah Thornton no puede dejarnos indiferentes. La autora, canadiense y residenciada en Londres, con formación en historia del arte y sociología, se ha interesado mucho por el mercado del arte, tema al que ha dedicado varios ensayos en publicaciones especializadas. Este libro está escrito al calor de lo sucedido en la primera década del siglo XXI, signada por el enorme auge de visitantes en los museos y el crecimiento del mercado de obras artísticas. Tras la crisis, 2013 volvió a seguir tal tendencia, llegando a ser considerado como el mejor año para este comercio, superando los 12.000 millones de dólares en transacciones de subastas, y convirtiendo a China en el primer actor.

  Whether or not you are a follower of the so-called “institutional theory of art”, formulated by George Dickie, and which affirms that art obtains its meaning by being located within a fabric of relationships created by institutions (museum, criticism, history and philosophy of the art…), this book by Sarah Thornton cannot leave us indifferent. The author, Canadian and based in London, with a background in art history and sociology, has taken a great interest in the art market, a subject to which she has devoted several essays in specialized publications. This book is written in the heat of what happened in the first decade of the 21st century, marked by the enormous boom in museum visitors and the growth of the market for artistic works. After the crisis, 2013 again followed this trend, becoming considered the best year for this trade, exceeding 12,000 million dollars in auction transactions, and making China the first player.
