Repensar los estudios culturales españoles en tiempos de extinción masiva y declive energético

    Si atendemos simultáneamente a los estudios sobre pérdida de biodiversidad a escala global y a los estudios críticos sobre energía llegaremos a una conclusión obvia: el paradigma cultural petro-moderno es incompatible con la vida planetaria. Por dicha razón, los imaginarios culturales dominantes fruto de dicho paradigma cultural resultan hoy ob­soletos para navegar la aguda crisis ecosocial a la que se enfrentan las sociedades del siglo XXI. Este ensayo argumenta que los estudios culturales y literarios españoles han ayudado a legitimar (directa o indirectamente) la lógica cultural de la petro-modernidad al perpe­tuar ciertos lugares comunes que contribuyen a minimizar, ignorar o invisibilizar los pro­blemas ecológicos y energéticos antes mencionados.

    An obvious conclusion emerges if we pay close attention to the ongoing pro­cess of rapid extinction and to the global energy situation: the petro-modern cultural para­digm is incompatible with the ecological systems that regulate life on earth. Thus, the dominant cultural imaginaries that emerged out of the dominant cultural paradigm are obsolete and dysfunctional in the current socioecological context. This essay claims that Spanish cultural studies have helped to legitimate the petro-modern cultural logic by dis­seminating expressions and metaphors that contribute to minimize, ignore or invisibilize the pressing ecological and energy issues of the 21st century.
