(Des)encuentros narrativos entre el cine y las ciencias sociales. Reflexiones metodológicas contrapunteadas desde una experiencia documental

    En este artículo se presentan una serie de reflexiones metodológicas que apuntan a un dilema narrativo que emerge cuando se trabaja desde la vinculación de procesos cinematográficos con los etnográficos: mostrar o explicar en el producto final. Tomando como punto de partida la experiencia de producir un documental a partir de una larga y profunda investigación etnográfica sobre poblaciones deportadas que habitan las calles de una ciudad fronteriza del norte de México, desde el planteamiento teórico-filosófico de que la realidad es inexorable se destaca que la simultaneidad del tiempo vivido y el tiempo documentado es la novedad que le ofrece el cine al trabajo etnográfico. Se argumenta que recrear la realidad es la posibilidad que se ofrece en el trabajo fílmico y se discuten tres formas de representación de la vida callejera fronteriza en el cine y las ciencias sociales: meritocráticas, victimistas y miserabilistas. Se aborda la posibilidad de trabajar lo local desde lo etnográfico y lo universal desde lo cinematográfico y se concluye destacando las ventajas del trabajo conjunto entre la etnografía y el cine, así como el papel que puede jugar el espectador en el proceso.

    This article presents a series of methodological reflections that point to a narrative dilemma that emerges when working from the linkage of cinematographic processes with ethnographic ones: to show or to explain in the final product. Taking as a starting point the experience of producing a documentary film from a long and ethnographic depth research on deported peoples who inhabit the streets of a border town in northern Mexico, the article elaborates the theoretical-philosophical approach of the inexorability of reality in order to emphasize that the simultaneity of lived time and doc-umented time is the novelty that cinema offers to ethnographic work. It also argues that recreating reality is the possibility offered in film work and, therefore, three forms of representation of border street life in cinema and the social sciences are discussed: meritocratic, victimist and miserabilist. It addresses the possibility of working the local from the ethnographic and the universal from the cinematographic and concludes by highlighting the advantages of the joint work between ethnography and cinema, as well as the role that the viewer can play in that process.
