AbstractTo grow and develop is an individual decision, is an act of personal freedom. Freedom to grow means: (a) To have different development alternatives and to choose from them the one with the best meaning to each one; (b) To be independent of structures and powerful leaderships; (c)Do not feel one self alienated or submitted. To take into account so many options causes uncertainty and to manage uncertainty rightly is an important part of the growing process. Not every body behaves the same way in order to grow. Somebody feels a high need of liberty and growth and manages efficiently uncertainty and difficulties along the most part of his/her life. Others, by contrast, are afraid of liberty because it implies the stress of choosing and deciding among extreme options. These people prefer to obey powerful leaders because they offer ways and options without the stress caused by uncertainty. In this study are examined existing relationships between liberty to growth, leadership preferences, country's social system and personal growth of individuals. Personal growth is measured by scores in six competencies related to the personal growth cycle: self-determination, active hope, achievement motivation, assertiveness, management of failure and uncertainty and self-esteem based on results. Several measures and results are analyzed.
