As part of the long tradition that studies the links between poetry and music, this article approaches the musicalisation of poems written by five iconic poets of the Spanish Silver Age –Antonio Machado, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti and Miguel Hernández– and the versions that came after the original songs, as a tool to analyse the reception of literary texts nowadays. After a brief chronological review from the early 20th Century to the end of Francoism, attention is paid to the way poetry is perceived through music in a postmodern society defined by consumerism.
