  • The glycerol (G; 11%; v:v) is a cryoprotectant which offers good results for the cryopreservation of local breed rooster sperm. In this study the in vitro quality and fertilizing ability of fresh and cryopreserved sperm processed with two different dilution rates (DR; 1:2,6 and 1:22) for the G removal were compared. The DR 1:2,6 exhibited higher in vitroquality than DR 1:22 and fresh sperm presented higher quality and fertility than cryopreserved sperm. In addition, an interaction between the type of semen and the DR was observed in the fertility rate, the fresh sperm exhibiting higher fertilizing ability with the high DR than with the low DR, while cryopreserved sperm presented similar fertilizing ability for both DR. In conclusion, the quality of the doses is higher if a low DR (1:2,6) is used but this quality at low DR does not translate into higher fertility.
