This study analysed the effects of different diets offered during the lactation and rearing phases on the ruminal fermentation patterns and metabolic profiles of Parda de Montaña beef heifers at 6 and 15 months of age. At 6 months, most ruminal parameters and plasmatic metabolites differed between feeding treatments applied in lactation, and so did at 15 months between rearing treatments. Ruminal ammonia concentration, total VFA, acetate, propionate and butyrate molar proportions were related to growth rate, glucose, cholesterol, beta-hydroxybutyrate and NEFA (r values depending on sampling time), which clearly shows the metabolic responses to concentrate supplementation levels in the diet.
